"Everyone is a Programmer" JoT Soft revolves around the bonmot of 20th century artist Josef Beuys, that everyone is an artist, and pushing it further into the 21st century. While some belive that Beuys was still too stiff and ´german like´ with his pathos and importance which is expressed in his artwork as well as in his perfomances, we just take the first part of his statement, everybody, and continue it slightly different: is a programmer; or, a game designer. We belive that nowadays programming is a little about ifs and thens, with some while...wends, combined with a few commands in between to combine the ends. To rend this true we, by accident, discovered a very simple though powerful game programming language named blitzbasic (blitzbasic.com), which sells for 60 - 80 €/$. Of course, in the future, we want to make Flash games, especially for the internet, or even master C and other more complicated programming dialects. Therefore we are no programmers, no storytellers, no grafic artists or sound editors nor musicians or ideologists/idealists. We commit ourselves to the idea, that being able to handle a living programming language is as useful as speaking a living foreign language, at least in the so called developed countries, and very much so if you want to develop computer games. While the computer game market is a mainstream industry far beyond any private enterprise, we, as one of many other similar groups, try to develop an everyday programming culture on our own by remaking old and simple games and invent new ones that haven´t been yet thought of or wouldn´t fit the market, instead of linking ourselves with the right or similar people. Though it seems like a very unamerican and oldworldly thought, it easily could be true that art, exploring the human potential, without any definite or immidate purpose, has to, like scientific basic research, be financed by the whole society or otherwise cost nothing. We for our part try to keep the developing costs reasonable, for now, which enables us to share the possible results. In other words, it´s a spleen, or to put it more contemporary: a hobby. It expresses our contribution, if any, to a future society where social communications would base upon knowledge rather than money. That is possible in theory and would, perhaps, be funny to experience in reality. JoT Soft, also known as Jelly-over-Titan, formally known as borhysom, is situated in Vienna, Austria.
